Theriot Insulted By His Baseball Ref Sponsor

Chicago Cubs shortstop Ryan Theriot drops the ball against the Houston Astros

The baseball-reference.com sponsors of Cubs players are getting downright subversive.

A day after we noted a spurned lover or prudish observer sponsoring Jeff Samardzija's page, there is now this from Ryan Theriot's sponsor:

The longest streak of starts by a Cub without an extra-base hit since 1992 (Joe Girardi) and the seventh-longest streak since 1920. I hear Milton Bradley is to blame.

The sponsor's name is The Therible Truth, who appears to have taken over the page this weekend (the sponsorship expires April 3, 2011). TTT then links to the longest streak of starts by a Cub without an extra base hits - and adds a further dig:

Therible when the 2009 Cubs needed it most.

Goodness. Theriot's page also tells us he's 0-for-7 for a .000/.000/.000 batting line and an OPS+ of -100.

Now we're obligated to go look at all the other Cubs' starter's pages:

(click "read more" for full article)

Mike Fontenot: Cajun Connection in effect. Come discuss Mike Fontenot and the 2009 Cubs at www.northsidebaseball.com.

Derrek Lee: (an ad for simulated baseball)

Aramis Ramirez: 3 die-hard fans discuss all things Cubs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Episodes include game recaps, debate on the latest Cubs news, emails and voicemails from fellow Cubs fans, and much more. Tune in for free via iTunes or Cubscast.com.

Geovany Soto: Cubs By The Numbers is a history of the Cubs organized by uniform number. The stories recount the history of the Cubs in a new way & tells you stories you may have never known about your favorite (and not so favorite) players.

Alfonso Soriano: (an ad for simulated baseball)

Marlon Byrd: A forum by collectors, for collectors. Come to connect and trade.

Kosuke Fukudome: 3 die-hard fans discuss all things Cubs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Episodes include game recaps, debate on the latest Cubs news, emails and voicemails from fellow Cubs fans, and much more. Tune in for free via iTunes or Cubscast.com.

Carlos Zambrano: Half-baked thoughts on Carlos Zambrano and all the Cubs at Blue Ivy!

Tom Gorzelanny: Welcome to the Cubs, Tom. God I wish Harry was still around to butcher your name every start. Good luck to the 2009 Cubs. Discuss Gorzelanny and the rest of the Cubs at www.northsidebaseball.com.

Ted Lilly: (sponsored by the Ted Lilly Fan Club) The Official, Unofficial, Home of Ted Heads Worldwide.

Ryan Dempster: (an ad for memoribilia).

Carlos Silva: Oddly, no sponsor - and not even an option to do so.

Carlos Marmol: Bleed Cubbie Blue, the Chicago Cubs blog of the SB Nation, proudly sponsors the page of the guy with the nastiest slider in the National League!

Sean Marshall: Bleed Cubbie Blue, the Chicago Cubs blog of the SB Nation, proudly sponsors the page of one of the more promising young Cub pitchers!

There you have it. So far, only Samardzija and Theriot are being insulted on their BR pages. That's sure to change as the Cubs pursue their 0-162 season and sponsorships expire.
