When the Mesa financing deal was announced for the Cubs that included a league-wide ticket surcharge, we wondered:

How much do you think Brewers fans will like paying extra to pay for a new spring training complex for the Cubs?

Turns out, nobody is all that thrilled about passing the cost of a Cubs facility along to their fans:

The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics are the latest Cactus League teams to come out against a proposed ticket surcharge on all Arizona spring training baseball games to pay for an $84 million stadium in Mesa for the Chicago Cubs.

“The Rangers join the other clubs in the Cactus League in being opposed to this proposed legislation. It would result in higher ticket prices for games in Surprise, which is certainly neither in our fans nor the Rangers’ best interest. We hope that the Cubs will stay in Arizona but not at the expense of Rangers’ fans,” said Rangers vice president John Blake.

The question is: Are the Rangers, Athletics, White Sox and other teams playing make-believe games in Arizona harmed more by a surcharge on all Cactus League tickets or the absence of the Cubs altogether (in the form of fewer fans).

I'm guessing the latter, but that is based on absolutely no study or research of any kind. So it's kind of scientific that way, and I choose to believe it.
