But Paul Sullivan managed to write about Milton Bradley this morning:

Tom Ricketts stood on a balcony in a crowded ballroom Friday evening, soaking in the applause at his first Cubs Convention as owner of the team. 

"How cool is this?" Ricketts asked the crowd.

So far, it has been very cool to be the Ricketts family, whose team has yet to lose a game nearly three months into their reign. Of course, things can change in a heartbeat in Chicago. Milton Bradley received a standing ovation before his first at-bat at Wrigley Field.

Things didn't turn out so well for Bradley or the Cubs. But hope springs eternal, just as it has for the last 101 years.

Byrd also was in a playful mood, talking about the hunger of Cubs fans and showing he knows his Cubs history, by saying "1908 says it all." He didn't pay attention to the controversy that surrounded Bradley's brief but memorable stint in Chicago and even got some advice from the ex-Cub, his former teammate in Texas.

"(Bradley) said he regrets not being able to enjoy Chicago," he said. "... He wished me the best and said: 'Do what I couldn't do.' "

Byrd has been touted by management as an excellent clubhouse presence, a subtle acknowledgment the Bradley experiment went awry. Ryan Theriot recalled the heady days of 2008, when he and Mark DeRosa were wearing camouflage and using duck calls in the clubhouse. 

"That's clubhouse stuff," he said. "That's what brings you together as a team."

At what point does he stop making Bradley the focal point of all stories? March 1? April 1?
