Phil Rogers Has Nothing New To Say
Written by wrigleyville
Saturday, 10 July 2010

OK, I don't have a blog any more, but somebody needs to point out how Phil Rogers is just mailing it in.

This morning, Rogers takes a look at trade deadline deals and reaches this conclusion (as summed up in the subhead):

Sellers usually enhance futures and buyers have mixed short-term results

On July 20, 2009 - a mere 356 days ago, as the trade deadline approached - Rogers wrote a column that concluded:

History long has said midseason deals favor the sellers, not the buyers. Only about one of three midseason trades achieved a short-term objective last season.

As we noted last year, his premise is faulty, as he cherry picks instances to "prove" his point - and even cites some that disprove it. He just doesn't realize it.

He does the same this year. You'd think an editor over there would say, "Phil, you wrote this column last year at the deadline. Let's try something new, shall we?"

Keep collecting those Trib paychecks, Phil.
